History
Thierry BEAUMONT, as successor of his parents and after more than 4 generations of winemakers.
The wine has been first sold in barrels to wine merchants from 1991 to 1998. Starting 1999, 80% of the wine is bottled at the vineyard and sold by the BEAUMONT family, of which 80% are export sales worldwide.
Before this was possible, heavy investments were necessary to achieve the desired quality wine level :
- 1991 to 1998 : sale entirely with a trader of Nuits-Saint-Georges
- 1996 : Construction of a modern and big cellar and winery
- 1997 : Purchasing of a temperature regulation device and new oak barrels
- 1999 : Marketing in bottles for 80% of harvest
- 2001 : purchasing of a grape sorting table and a Willmes pneumatic press, isolation/climatisation and equipment improvements of the winery and the shipping area
- founding of the trade company « SARL GRANDS VINS DE BOURGOGNE THIERRY BEAUMONT » in order to be able to sell the wines of the Domaine worldwide (French rules)
- 2003 : 100% of the wines is sold in bottles.
Four new wines complete the range of the Domaine :
- MOREY SAINT DENIS BLANC
- CHAMBOLLE MUSIGNY
- CHAMBOLLE MUSIGNY 1ER CRU "les chabiots"
- MOREY SAINT DENIS 1ER CRU "les sorbés"
- Air-conditioning of the fermenting room and local for preparation of order.
- 2005 : Acquisition vibrating sort table (6 screening machines)
Vinification
Green harvest, then manual harvest only, draining, grapes sorting and stemming by 100%. Fermentation in concrete tanks 15 to 20 days, slight press and control of the temperature with maceration and pre-fermentation. Maturing and care of the wines in barrels is 12 to 18 months long. Grand Cru and Premier Cru wines are matured by using 60% new oak barrels. This rate is 30% for the Village appellations. There is none or a very slight filtration, bottling takes place at the vineyard.
